Totally imitation. A bit cringe-y, but it could have been Katy Perry cringe-y, for sure. It was def. not as bad as people are making it out to be. Like…that “Chinese Food” music video that was produced by the dude that produced Rebecca Black’s song
i will always bring to light the fact that Lady Gaga used the term “Orient” to describe Asian people in all seriousness.
Avril could be doing a lot worse than wearing candy-bead necklaces and saying “kawaii” too much.
THAT’S REALLY TRUE. I did hear that it was a Japan-only release and she had a big fanbase in Japan. I just wasn’t really certain how to take it, you know? I didn’t want to react to it too strongly because I wasn’t really sure.
Yeah yeah, understandable.
Lots of western music stars have HUGE followings in Japan, hell, lots of non-Japanese celebrities are fawned over by their respective fans.
It just seems really… silly to go after her for someone like this, and I’ve seen so many people condemning her nearly to death. Honestly, the video itself looks like someone who was really pumped up about J-POP music videos, wanted to make one herself, then that’s the result. It might not be the best thing ever, but it’s certainly not as bad as it could have been.
Idk, it seems less like appropriation and more just… imitation, something we’re all guilty of at one point or another.
someone best described it as cringe-y as a kpop star singing about Mickey mouse with a cowboy hat in Manhattan. I’m not Japanese, so I can’t really speak for them if it’s offensive or not, but it did kind of look like using them as props.
I dunno man. The Japanese are a fun people. The video itself wasn’t IN YOUR FACE Japanese like all the Harajuku Girls stuff with Gwen was. From what I’ve been reading, Avril just got finished with a music tour in Asia. She probably just got smitten with J-pop and the wacky fun in the their music videos, wanted to get in on that, and now it’s being called “the worst music video ever”
Shit, she could have been running around a shrine dressed in a kimono and making the V pose with her fingers. It was more like a 14 year old after hearing Pon Pon Wei for the first time.
[AWFUL WEEABOO NOISES] I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE AVRIL’S NEW MUSIC VIDEO AND HER NEW SINGLE.
because she’s basically going through the japanophile phase we all went through, let’s face it. don’t rag on someone for being a momentary weeaboo.
shit. gwen stefani did it and it was PAINFUL but gosh all the songs were hella catchy
daily reminder that if you sincerely believe you’re a fictional character or non-human species that you should go get some fucking therapy (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:・ﾟ✧
